Testing Accommodations

NOTE: Additions or changes may have been made to these documents since publication on the world wide web. Please consult SSD for current policies.

Because students with disabilities are best served when accommodated in the most integrated setting possible, Services to Students with Disabilities (SSD) strongly encourages instructors to provide test accommodations within their own departments. When test accommodations cannot be provided by the instructor, SSD provides the service as a convenience for faculty and students. Test administrations handled by SSD involve only physical assistance in accordance with the student's functional limitation (e.g., reading, writing, marking answer sheets, time extensions). The service is structured to provide students with a fair opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of course content without resulting in a competitive academic advantage over other students.

Testing Accommodation Procedure

Bullet Image Testing accommodations are provided to students who have a verified disability and when recommended by an SSD counselor/coordinator.
Bullet Image Currently enrolled CSUSB students are eligible for accommodations, as are students who are finishing an Incomplete who otherwise meet eligibility requirements.
Bullet Image Testing accommodations may include extended testing time. Extended time does not apply to assignments such as take-home exams, papers, and projects.
Bullet Image It is the student's responsibility to identify him/herself to the professor as a student who will utilize testing services. At the student's request, SSD will provide memos for students to give to their professors verifying their eligibility for services.
Bullet Image Requests for testing arrangements are made only by completing the Out of Class Testing Request form. One form must be completed for each exam the student plans to take in the SSD Office. The professor must sign the Out of Class Testing Request Form and should keep the pink copy for their records. This form must be submitted to SSD no later than 5 working days prior to any quiz or midterm, and at least 10 working days prior to any Final Exam.
Bullet Image It is the responsibility of students to remind professors to deliver copies of exams to SSD prior to the time of scheduled examinations. SSD may reschedule exams if exams are not received from professors prior to the scheduled exams.
Bullet Image If students arrive late for exams, the time missed will be deducted form the time allowed. If students arrive more than one hour late for exams, the exams may be returned to the professors, and may be rescheduled only with the professors' approval.
Bullet Image Students must provide their own testing materials, including Blue Books, Scantron sheets, paper, and writing utensils.
Bullet Image Students must leave backpacks, books, and notebooks and other materials outside the testing room before beginning exams.
Bullet Image Students who are caught cheating will have testing services suspended. In addition the professor will be notified.
Bullet Image Students may not converse with one another if in a group testing room.
Bullet Image Once students begin exams, they may not leave the testing room for any reason unless permission is given by the SSD counselor/coordinator.
Bullet Image Students taking an exam may not leave the room for any reason unless given permission by the SSD counselor/coordinator.
Bullet Image Students must sign the Exam Cover Sheet/Receipt after completion of an exam and before leaving the facility.
