At California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) there are over 500 students with verified disabilities served
by the office of Services to Students with Disabilities (SSD). Since 1978, CSUSB has experienced dynamic growth in its population of students with disabilities. SSD provides the necessary academic support services instrumental for the achievement of chosen academic goals. Reading services are available for students who are blind or visually impaired or who would otherwise benefit due to a learning disability. Qualified sign language interpreters make class lectures/laboratories and other events accessible for deaf or hearing impaired students. Students who use wheelchairs or have orthopedic limitations can receive mobility assistance on campus. Student assistants are available to assist with laboratory work or library research. During midterm and final examinations, students receive appropriate accommodations to compensate for their disability. The SSD office staff provides test proctoring, reading and/or writing services when appropriate. Services are critical to a student's success; therefore, needs are assessed on an individual basis. This highly personalized approach has enabled SSD to maintain a record of success in assisting students with disabilities. |
